Every LDS congregation is led by a bishop who works in strong ties with the local Relief Society president. The Bishop is the one in charge of the storehouse, hence its name. See our Facebook feed for our current food and toiletry needs.Bishop Storehouses are a place where members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints keep stored goods and common household items for those in need. Storehouse relies upon voluntary donations of food and money. We aim to give practical help in the short term but support in the long term. We provide emotional one to one support, referrals to external agencies where appropriate and guidance on benefits and budgeting. Storehouse offers a safe place to come and meet with the team and other service users, in warmth and security. The people who we meet have complex needs such as extreme poverty, mental health issues, addictions, unemployment, experiences of domestic abuse, and may be ex-prisoners or homeless. We want to ensure that all are guaranteed the basic items for health and hygiene.Īlthough Storehouse is firstly practical and tangible, it is also relational and we provide informal mentoring and befriending, whether that be at the food bank or sitting beside a homeless person on the street.

Food makes up the bulk of the support we give, however, importantly, we also include essentials for sanitation such as dental care, as well as nappies and formula for babies. The food and toiletries for Storehouse are donated to us by church members, friends, family, members of the public and local businesses, including Morrisons at Anniesland and Waitrose at Byres Road. Storehouse food bank gives out food and toiletries hampers every Saturday morning (10.00 – 12.00) from the Vineyard Centre, Linden Street, in Anniesland. The aim is to give the assurance of food to those in greatest need. Storehouse is a practical service set up by Glasgow Vineyard to meet the immediate and long term needs of those who are destitute in the North and West of Glasgow, with a specific focus on Drumchapel, Knightswood, Anniesland and the surrounding areas. We are working hard to ensure that we are able to provide food and essential toiletries to those in greatest need in ways which protect our clients and volunteers. Contributing to our work during the Covid-19 Crisisĭuring the covid19 crisis we are required to self-isolate and maintain social distancing, all of which creates considerable challenges to the operation of essential services, such as Storehouse Food Bank.
